Norsonic Hextile - New Acoustic Camera

17 September 2018

Acoustic beamforming arrays, commonly known as acoustic cameras, enable the user to visualise different sound sources at different frequencies and source strengths.

The number of microphones and their spacing is the key function to how effective an acoustic camera is at identifying sources closely located and at low frequency.  The user therefore has to balance the dimensions of the acoustic array, to keep it portable and still be able to meet the measurement requirements.

The new Hextile from Norsonic is modular in design so can be used as a single device or clicked together to use as a larger dish.  This keeps the system highly portable and able to fulfil the full range of jobs you may need an acoustic camera for.

Single Hextile - Compact & Portable

128 MEMS Microphones

Less than 3kg in weight and a diameter of 46cm

Low Frequency limit for the Hextile is 410Hz

Mutli-tile - Great Resolution

383 MEMS Microphones

Less than 3kg in weight and a diameter of 96cm

Low Frequency limit for the Hextile is 220Hz

Multi-tile - Low Frequency

383 MEMS Microphones

Less than 3kg in weight and a diameter of 1.46cm

Low Frequency limit for the Hextile is 120Hz

The system is quick to deploy and works with a single USB cable from the acoustic camera to the Laptop.  The user friendly app means you can measure efficiently without having to learn complex software.
